OPI Coney Island Cotton Candy vs. Sinful Colors Subdued

OPI - Coney Island Cotton Candy (index, ring) & Sinful Colors - Subdued (middle, pinkie), 4 + 2 coats

Perhaps a slightly dull comparison of nudes, but hey. Coney Island Cotton Candy and Subdued look relatively similar in the bottle, but on the nail CICC is much more yellow and Subdued definitely appears to be very pink. The Sinful Color is a nice self-leveling creme but it's way too pink to be a perfect match for my skintone. I guess the OPI can be classified as a jelly and as such takes tons of coats to be even remotedly opaque - I did four coats and you can still see my VNL. I think there are two versions of this one floating around - mine is from the newer batch.

Avon Splendid Blue & Sinful Colors Deep Blue Ocean

Avon - Splendid Blue, 2 coats

Yet another winner from Avon! Splendid Blue is a maelstrom of teal glass flecks in a blue base. Again, formula was spot on and the flat, wide brush is - well, splendid! I have a feeling that this one could be quite a stainer so be sure to use a good base coat.

Avon - Splendid Blue & Sinful Colors - Deep Blue Ocean, 2 + 1 coats

Adding a coat of Deep Blue Ocean over the Avon transforms it into a deeper, more violet toned blue. This combo required two coats of clear polish in addition of my regular top coat to get rid of the rough surface. Removal was a bit of a pain but this super pretty flakie & glitter polish is totally worth it.

Sinful Colors Color Scare & Precision Hazel & Gretel

Sinful Colors - Color Scare, 2 coats

The gorgeous, glowing Color Scare has golden metallic particles in a burnt orange base. I'm really not into gold or bronze copper at all, but I have to admit that Color Scare looks great with my skintone, bringing out the warm tones (I usually look like a corpse with just about any polish on).

Sinful Colors - Color Scare & Precision - Hazel & Gretel, 2 + 2 coats

I'm not sure if Hazel & Gretel has a typo in the name ("Hanzel & Gretel") or if it points to the orange half of this silver and orange glitter polish. Anyway, these two make a great festive pairing that looks good under all lighting conditions.

Talk Like A Pirate Day Nails

Today is Talk Like A Pirate Day! I love Pirates!
I used one coat of Pure Ice French Kiss (an amazing polish that I'll review soon!) with one coat of Barry M Silver Sea. One coat of Sinful Secret Admirer (another amazing polish!) topped with China Glaze Matte Magic for the Jolly Roger pirate flag. I used my beloved smARTNails sticker stencil & China Glaze Millennium for the skull and crossbones.

Foxy Lady

What sort of Karma would make me sick right after I get my big haul of China Glaze. The kind of sick where polish fumes make me cough a lung up. :(

I managed to get this mani done before it hit me full force.
Pardon the thumb cuticle, it's had some rough treatment as of late

This is two coats of China Glaze Foxy which is a glorious fiery rust color that applied like a dream. From there I took one of my ebay 2 way polish pens in a copper glitter and painted a diagonal line across the nail. Then I took Stripe Rite in the liquid gold color (not glitter) and did a thin line under it. Finally I took Sinful Colors All About You and painted from the glitter stripe to the tip.
I like the effect it gave, subtle but eye caching. Here is a better look at that close up.
The copper glitter is a lot courser and allows more of Foxy to show from beneath while the finer gold of All About You is more dense and opaque while still having the flash from some red glitter.

I really like this diagonal mani, it's super simple. I may have to fall back on it some more once I'm healthy again.
Off to nurse myself with a cup of Lemon Zinger tea with a lime slice (since we're out of lemons). It's my ultimate feel good for what ails me tea, and bed. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Sinful Mint Apple, Nail Stickers & ManGlaze!

This is three coats of Sinful Mint Apple, a lovely dark mint with silver microshimmer. Another winner from Sinful!

I decided to try some nail art stickers for the first time and I really like the end result.

The next day I decided to try my new ManGlaze polishes that I won from Sara of Daily Polish. So fun! I used Matte-Astrophe on my ring and pinkie and Hot Mess on the other two fingers.

Hooray for the Red White and Blue!

This year is screaming by! Can you believe that it will be the Fourth of July in just a few short days? Me neither.

In the spirit of fun I suggested having a Fourth of July nail challenge to the Painted Ladies group on Ravelry. Ashley of I Enjoy Being a Girl graciously agreed to sponsor the event complete with a winner takes all prize. Fun Fun!!

Honestly, I can't count how many times I removed and reapplied polish to settle on the look I have now. I actually started going for something a lot more difficult. (Epic fail there for a beginner) then finally pared it down to the basics.

The challenge allows you to submit as many different looks as you like but I don't know if I'll have the fortitude to try another look on myself...maybe the daughter. But here it is.

Used: Orly 'Platinum' (white), Pure Ice 'Celestial' topped with 'Strapless' (blue), Sinful Colors 'Merlot' (red) and Stripe Rite Silver.

World Cup 2010 Ghana

Ghana was one of my favorite teams last World Cup and they are this time as well. I used China Glaze Solar Power, a Tic Tac red, & BB Couture Poison Ivy for the Ghana Flag. I painted my nail yellow and then the next morning, I used a strip of blue painter's tape to make the green and red stripes. I used my smARTnails sticker stencils for the star. One coat of one of my favorites, Sinful Secret Admirer for the rest of my nails.

World Cup fever is real and I have it! It's safe to say that the World Cup has taken over my life. I've watched all but one game! I'm way behind on the blog! I was supposed to start my blog anniversary giveaway on the 17th but I STILL haven't had a chance to get to it. I promise I will soon.

I wanted to post this yesterday, but no time! So yesterday's World Cup hottie of the day is the entire team of Ghana! Especially Ayew & Gyan!

Isadora Sapphire & Layering With Sinful Hottie

This is 2 coats of Isadora Sapphire. It looks very pretty in the bottle but it just ended up looking like a black creme on my nails most of the time. Nice application but this one isn't making it into my polish rotation.

I put one coat of Sinful Hottie over this manicure and it looks gorgeous! If you like glitter, you must get Sinful Hottie! You can see it layered over China Glaze Adore here.

You can still enter my handmade clothing and accessories giveaway from UPC Fashion. Hurry Ends tonight! Enter here!
